KM Club: Kids Helping Kids (kmclub.ca)
This AIK program enables kids, Kindergarten – Grade 7, to run with an organized group. The program was designed to encourage kids to be active and healthy while giving them a sense of purpose through giving. Each week the kids meet for an organized run of 1-3km on a marked route within the schoolyard. The children are encouraged to bring a small donation each week to donate to families battling Cancer.
The KM Club is a year round (Sept-June) parent volunteer led program. It's easy to start up, it's very rewarding and inspiring to see what ideas kids come up with when it comes to the "purposeful running" part of the program. The AIK KM Club run program is different, it gives kids an opportunity to be part of a charity, gives them a sence of importance and ownership. They love to be part of a healthy giving program and take pride in their milestones and achievements.
*Our kids program is like no other, the participants understand the gift of HEALTH and how important it is to make healthy choices in activities (such as running) See Aidan Chow's(Cancer patient) You Tube video on his first 2 week of treatment. It is not easy to watch but will help you to understand why the Athletes In Kind KM Club is so important to the families we support financially through the BC Childhood Cancer Parents Association at Vancouver's Children's Hospital.
A specialty mentoring group for grades 6 & 7. Registered Race Team Members from all over the district of Ridge Meadows experience what it is like to lead and mentor younger runners in a safe and healthy environment. Adult run leaders lead the RT in an organized run workout each Friday there are plenty of opportunities to learn more about healthy competition, racing, and leadership when you join our TEAM.
The Race Team members lead small groups in warm up for the Pitt Meadows Elementary KM Club; they have in the past shown amazing will and stamina during sessions in difficult workouts and eagerly come back each week for more. They have been invited by other adult run clubs to join in their races and have developed friendships with everyone on the RT because they have running in common.
