oktoberFAST Report 2017

Near perfect conditions for the 2nd annual AIK OktoberFAST made for a great day for everyone involved. We saw a lot of new faces and some fast times by returning runners from last year.

First male in the 5k was Sean Graydon (who was 2nd overall in 2016) with a 19:08 clocking. Tori Bandringa was top female in the 5k (placing 2nd in the 10k in 2016) with a time of 21:54.

In the 10k the top spot was also a new course record by young Evan Querengessar at 38:50 (he was 4th in 2016). Maggie Graydon was the first female to break the tape again this year by reducing her time to 44:37. It’s also worth mentioning that some true sportsmanship was demonstrated during the race by Tina-Louise Harris (who was the 5k winner in 2016) among others, and we are grateful for healthy competition at all levels.

The top online fundraiser this year was also a return winner. Ashlene Hutton raised $1990.00 on her own! More then doubling her top mark from last year. She sets the bar high.

Athletes In Kind’s most prestigious award, the annual Jan Saunders Memorial Award, went to Paul Dyck. The award recognizes contributions to the charitable organization that go above and beyond and Paul Dyck has quietly done that with his extreme generosity as a sponsor since the formation of Athletes In Kind in 2005. The list of what he and his team at Graphix Unlimited as done for AIK over these many years is beyond impressive. Thank you Paul! We just wish Lorie could have handed the trophy to you in person.

These efforts along with a team of volunteers and generous sponsors make it possible to help families even more this year by raising over $14,000.00.

BC Childhood Cancer Parents Association was on sight sharing how they are able to support families who have a child in cancer treatment with all of our help.

Our deepest gratitude to all participants, sponsors, friends and family for making this race such a huge success!

We have early registration incentives planned for 2018 coming soon. So if you enjoyed this year bring a friend next year. If you missed this year, you will want to sign up early to take advantage of some great offers. Yes the beer garden and bands will be back!
